PRESENTATION TYPE

Authors will be required to indicate their preferred presentation format when submitting an abstract.

  • Please select Oral Presentation if you wish for your abstract to be considered for Oral Presentation only
  • Please select Interactive Presentation Powered by PechaKucha if you wish to be considered for this type of Interactive Presentation only
  • Please select e-Poster if you wish to be considered for this type of Presentation only
  • Please select Oral Presentation or Other Presentation if you wish for your abstract to be considered firstly for Oral Presentation, secondly for an Interactive Presentation and finally for an e-Poster.

PRESENTATION FORMAT

There are three types of presentation formats.

Oral Presentation

Oral Presentations will be notified of their length of presentation time in the acceptance letters. Abstracts not selected for Oral Presentation may be eligible for an Interactive Presentation or e-Poster.

Interactive Presentation

Powered by PechaKucha
PechaKucha is a presentation methodology in which 20 PowerPoint slides are shown for 20 seconds each; giving a total presentation time of 6 minutes, 40 seconds. The purpose of the format keeps presentations concise and fast-paced. Interactive Presentations will be scheduled within the main program and presenters talk to their slides throughout the presentation time. Further briefing details will be provided upon acceptance.

e-Poster

e-Poster presentations are a visual display of research projects. The poster display will be an integral part of the program and will available to access on internet terminals within the Exhibition. e-Posters are to be prepared using no more than 10 PowerPoint slides.

Full details of the format of the interactive poster offered will be detailed within acceptance notifications sent to nominated presenting authors.

THEMES

The Joint World Conference on Social Work, Education and Social Development 2014 are seeking abstracts relevant to the following themes:

  • Strengthening the social and cultural wellbeing of individuals, families and communities – promoting resilience, empowerment, safety and respect
  • Addressing health inequalities and disadvantage for individuals and communities
  • Fostering social and economic initiatives that promote security and protection
  • Creating sustainable and safe physical environments
  • Educating for change, human rights and equality
  • Ensuring the sustainable and ethical use of technology in human services (#husITa14).

The technology-related theme will be organised by husITa and form part of #husITa14: a stream of human service technology presentations within the main conference. Presenters can make a #husITa14 presentation using any of the presentation types indicated above. If you wish your presentation to be made as part of #husITa14 select the technology related theme when submitting your abstract in the speakers portal. CALL FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Abstract submission is a three step process:

STEP 1

Abstract template: Download the Abstract Template, save it to your desktop and complete it. Use the template to present your abstract in the required format. Abstracts submitted not using this template will be returned for correction.

  • Your abstract must be written in English
  • Abstract text must be in Arial, 10pt font, single-spaced and left aligned
  • Your abstract text should be no more than 300 words, including references
  • There is to be a maximum of two references
  • Use standard abbreviations only. Within the body of the abstract, when using abbreviations spell out the name in full at the first mention and follow with the abbreviation in parenthesis. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the name in full is outlined in the body of the abstract
  • Your abstract should clearly, and where applicable, concisely outline the Background, Research Aims/Objectives, Methodology, Results/Findings and Conclusions
  • After completing the abstract template, move onto step 2.
STEP 2

Creating an account/logging into the Speakers Portal

Firstly you must create an account in order to upload an abstract. To begin, please click on the button above entitled “SUBMIT ABSTRACT”.

Once you have done this and you have not previously submitted an abstract please click “Create New Account”. Your contact details will be required to create the account. You will be automatically logged in, as well as emailed a password for future use.

Once you’ve created an account within this portal you can upload the abstract, review briefing notes, register for the Conference and review speaker terms and conditions at any time by logging in.

STEP 3

Submitting your Abstract

Click on “New Abstract.” You will be required to provide the following details prior to uploading the abstract file:

  • The Title of your Abstract
  • Presentation Type (preference only)
  • Theme
  • Name and Organisation of all Co-Presenters and Co-Authors
  • A brief biography of the Presenting Author, the biography should be no more than 100 words
  • Your Completed Abstract Template.

Please note:

  • All abstracts must be prepared according to the guidelines provided. Incomplete or incorrect submissions will be returned to the author and must be re-submitted immediately in the correct format to be considered for inclusion in the program
  • All fields on the online abstract submission form must be completed
  • You will be able to access the speaker portal account to make changes, edit or replace your existing submissions until 18 October 2013. After this date, abstracts will be published exactly as they are submitted; there will be no opportunity for amendments from the close of abstracts on
    18 October 2013
  • Abstracts must be submitted by the presenting author who should complete all fields on the online submission form
  • Submission of your abstract/s implies you have read, understood and comply with the Terms and Conditions as outlined on the website and the speaker portal.

CONFIRMING YOUR SUBMISSIONS

You are required to double check your abstract has uploaded correctly and has successfully been converted to a PDF file, during the upload process. If you have any concerns, please contact the Conference Office on T +61 3 9645 6311 or email .

ABSTRACT REVIEW NOTIFICATION

Abstract review notification will be communicated to the corresponding authors by 6 December 2013. Please note the details provided as the author contact should be for the nominated main contact for your abstract. All correspondence relating to the submission will be directed to this person, and they should in turn distribute to all co-presenters.

ABSTRACT SPEAKER REGISTRATION

The invitation to submit an abstract does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the Conference. Similarly, no presenter fee is paid to successful participants.

All presenters must register and pay for the Conference by 4 April 2014 in order for the presentation to be included in the Conference Program.
